Self Defence Class
As part of Substantive Equality month, WIL will be running a self-defence class on campus. ⭐️ Carol Beaumont is a life-long activist for human rights and social justice for all people. In 2021, Carol became an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit for her services to the union movement and women’s rights.
⭐️ Ella Shepherd is a fifth year BA/LLB(Hons) student at the University of Auckland. From 2021 she has been an executive committee member of ALRANZ Abortion Rights Aotearoa.
⭐️ The Equal Justice Project is a non-partisan pro bono charity that applies law students' legal training and knowledge to promote social equality, inclusivity, and access to justice within our community.
⭐️ National Council of Women New Zealand is an umbrella organisation made up of many diverse organisations who focus on advancing the status of women and our shared goal to achieve gender equity.

💸 Next Tuesday afternoon we will be hosting a financial literacy in collaboration with @mas.co.nz ! 💸
The event aims to educate students about the importance of Kiwisaver, planning for the future and being aware of your investment strategies before making important decisions like buying a first house! 🏦 MAS advisors will be there to answer any of your personal financial questions 🤩

Quiz Night! Fundraiser for Women’s Refuge
It’s that time of year again!! Women in Law and Women in Health Network are so excited to be hosting a quiz night online to fundraise for Women’s Refuge! Everyone is welcome, so get your pals together, and gear up for a fun night!
The event is $5 per person, and all donations go towards gifting a safe night to help the victims of family violence. One night of safety at Women’s Refuge for a woman and child costs $20 and includes a safe clean bed, hot meals, 24-hour security, secure transport, supportive staff and helpful advice. The Women’s Refuge’s services are vital all year around, but are particularly critical during lockdown as there is often a spike in family violence. Please come along to support a good cause!

Outreach Launch Event
The Women in Law “Outreach” kaupapa aims to tackle the structural barriers facing women considering a career in law, acknowledging that these structural barriers are most pronounced for women from minority groups and/or lower socio-economic backgrounds.
In the official launch event of our Outreach Initiative, we will be hearing from inspiring wāhine who embody the values of our kaupapa. We're delighted to have Laura Carter, President of Auckland Women Lawyer's Association and Barrister at Sangro Chambers as our MC. Our panellists include:

Exam Destress Week
Women in Law warmly invites Auckland law students to join us for Exam Destress Week in the last week of semester 1!
The closer we get to exams, the harder it gets for many students to prioritise their mental wellness. We'll be running a series of FREE events to promote mental health throughout the week that will be open to ALL Auckland law students, including:

WIL x Boxing Alley
Join UoA Women in Law and Boxing Alley for a free boxing class to promote mental health and wellness.

If you've felt daunted by the thought of it, you're certainly not alone! Whether you’re embarking on the recruitment process this year, or just want to be prepared, come along to our event to get the low-down.
We've put together a line-up of incredible students and grads who've successfully tackled recruitment season and are ready to shed some light on the process.
